Energy

Conway School of Landscape Design just completed a master plan for Bloody Brook Farm. We are planning a three pronged strategy: the first is conservation, the second is renewable, and the third is cost. On the conservation side we have installed energy efficient windows and doors in the farmhouse. We are planning to install a new heating system that will provide heat for the house as well as the barn and the greenhouse that is in the planning stage. As far as the renewable we are examining both geothermal system that would leave no carbon footprint if we use photovoltaic to run the pumps and the heat exchanger and the other system we are researching is a wood gasification boiler and use the fourteen acres of forest on the base of the mountain. The third aspect of the plan, cost, will determine which of the systems we will incorporate into the plan. One of the areas we are researching as well is the use of biomass to provide us with the fuel we use on the farm. Hopefully with our new national administration there will more funds available for local farms and businesses to create the above projects.
